Zurich – Although widespread in the corporate world, the practice of using money as an incentive sometimes detracts from a manger’s ability to acquire a leadership position, and so to engage others in the pursuit of common goals.
The lecture will draw from a growing body of experimental and empirical research to suggest that the relationship between monetary incentives, motivation and leadership, is less straightforward than most managers and HR systems assume. More than rationally designed monetary incentives, leadership involves hard-wiring three basic human drives – challenge, engagement, and purpose – within an organization’s distinctive culture.
