Agritech startup ecoRobotix raises CHF 3 million
Yverdon-les-Bains – ecoRobotix just announced the closing of its CHF 3 million Series A which was split into two tranches. ecoRobotix produces a solar-powered robot that drastically reduces the amount of pesticides needed in crop farming.
The first tranche of around CHF 1 million was lead by investiere with an investment of CHF 330’000. Business Angels Switzerland (BAS) and a number of other private investors also participated.
First investment of the newly established VC fund 4FO Ventures
ecoRobotix is the first investment of the newly established VC fund 4FO Ventures, which contributed the 2nd tranche. This fund has been set up by serial entrepreneur Jean-Pierre Rosat and Vice-President of Roche, André Hoffmann. “We are delighted to be starting our investments by backing ecoRobotix. The company is a perfect example of the kind of project and the values that we want to support,” explains Rosat.
Massively reduce the use of chemical products
The funds will be used to complete the development and industrial production of the robot, and to launch the first sales of the machine in Switzerland and in Europe. “We offer a concrete solution to both economic and ecological problems of the farming world and make it possible to massively reduce the use of chemical products,” said a satisfied Aurélien G. Demaurex, co-founder of ecoRobotix. Thanks to its sensors, camera and GPS system, the ecoRobotix robot – which is solar powered – is capable of spraying only the unwanted growths in a field, thus drastically reducing the quantity of pesticides used for weeding crops, and consequently reducing the cost to the farmer.
